Local Spotlight: Introducing Jenni Lovette Boutique

Here in the city of Saint Louis lies a tremenduous amount of talented creatives, giving their all to inspire the world around them. The goal of the Local Spotlight feature is to capture my city at it's best by exposing the creativity and effortlessly fresh to death people, places, and things perusing under a steel giant known as The Arch. Come see St.Louis at it's best.

January's Local Spotlight: Jenni Lovette (Jewelry Designer)

"Creativity is limitless" - Jennifer Walker (Jenni Lovette)

A genuine soul with an aura of royalty who pours her heart out in her hands while molding art in the form of jewelry is one Ms. Jennifer Walker. Her spunk is expressed through her smile and childlike eyes that tell of a vivd imagination eager to be discovered. Jenni has been on a professional quest to keep the world in one fly accessory after another for a year and a half with her St. Louis based business and newest online boutique Jenni Lovette (formerly know as IamSewFunky). Jenni Lovette is her most recent venture with an aim to redefine and expand the artistry of Jennifer Walker.

Jen is a fab mommy who describes herself as a "cool kinda lady" that enjoys singing, reading, and sushi. Her handiwork has been featured in St. Louis based urban publication-Delux Mag, Kansas City based publication- Ink Mag, a variety of local fashion shows, various blog features, and sold in local boutiques. Her customers express a deep devotion to their pieces as the custom made origin of each brings individuality to any of their style choices. I got a chance for some Q&A action with Jen, checkout what she had to say below as well as few of her favorite pieces directly from the online boutique store, JenniLovette.COM.

Fly11: What is the story behind the first piece of jewelry you ever designed?
Jen: My first piece of jewelry were my Denim Peace & Love earrings. While working at a job I didn't like, I began making denim earrings to help the time go by. My co-workers loved them and I really enjoyed making them. It was exciting and I wanted that feeling forever.

Fly11: When did you realize that it was time to go into business?
Jen: After having my daughter, I hated leaving her in daycare to return to work. I thought long and hard before I finally decided to quit. I then started making denim EVERYTHING.

Fly11: Your good friend is getting married and wants you to design a piece for her engagement party, what would it be?
Jen: Definitely a simple necklace. As far as the necklace design, I would say a small sterling silver chain that rests along the collar bone with a small cluster of charms. A silver heart, a silver wing, a pink pearl, & a silver charm that reads "love". They are great for sentimental gifts and I wouldn't want to take any attention away from her ring.

Fly11: Looks like you are in the process of recreating your art, what has been your inspiration(s) for the change?
Jen: My transition from SewFunky to JenniLovette is quite simple. I wanted SewFunky to now be a line that I carry in my boutique and not the name that defines my jewelry as a whole. Being SewFunky meant all my designs had to be bold, colorful, sewn or crafty. Which is fine, but my creativity is so much broader than the box that I was in. So I freed myself and I am loving the art of JenniLovette.

Fly11: It's a Monday morning, what are you doing?
Jen:
Up at 6:45 am, seeing to my children and niece & nephew getting off to school. After that I make breakfast for my youngest who's not in school. Finally, I sit down with my laptop, coffee in hand and check my website. I answer emails, document orders, check on supply shipments, make more pieces, take pics, edit them...you get the picture and that's the short version.

Fly11: What tips would you give for someone interested in breaking into the accessories business?
Jen: Pray daily. Believe in yourself. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Focus on yourself and what you have to offer your customers. Love what you do, if you don't love it, don't do it. Build honest relationships with your suppliers and they will be your best friends.

Fly11: What's next for Jen?
Jen: Wow. A couple more physical locations will carry JenniLovette as well as online boutiques. Collabs, another new line and maybe even a little traveling..I am a firm believer of "speaking things into existence" and these things are already in the works so I guess I'm safe..lol
